Man killed, woman and minor hurt in firing incidents

An apparently abducted man was found dead in Karachi’s Orangi Town neighbourhood, while a woman and a minor girl were wounded in separate incidents of firing in the city on Sunday.

According to details, the body of a man was found in the bushes in Hawa Goth of Orangi Town. After receiving information about the body, the Iqbal Market police and rescuers arrived on the scene and took it to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH).

Police said the body was a day old, and the victim had been shot once, adding that the CNIC found in the victim’s pocket identified him as 27-year-old Akhtar, son of Hayat Khan. They said the motive behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

Separately, a 60-year-old woman identified as Hassan Banu, wife of Bakhti Khan, was wounded in a firing incident in Orangi Town’s Faqir Colony. She was taken to the ASH. Police said a stray bullet had hit the woman.

Similarly, a six-year-old girl identified as Minhal was wounded after a stray bullet hit her near the Star Ground in Sherpao Colony. The Quaidabad police said she was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Man arrested

The Rangers and police in a joint operation arrested a suspect on Sunday for allegedly killing his wife. According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, the paramilitary force and police conducted a raid on a tip-off in the Kandu Goth area of the city and arrested a man, Sunny Ali, who had killed his wife, Samina Iqbal.

The spokesperson explained that the body of Samina, who had been stabbed to death, was found in the Manghopir area on October 8, 2020. A special team of the Rangers was formed to investigate the case, which arrested the deceased woman’s husband. The suspect also reportedly confessed to murdering the woman. Further investigations are under way.
