First Urdu translation of Quran without dots
LAHORE:An Islamic scholar has made history by translating the Holy Quran in Urdu language using words without dots. The scholar, Prof Dr Tahir Mustafa, an associate professor at a private university in Lahore, has earlier completed his doctorate on the names of Holy Prophet (PBUH).
The translation titled “Dars-e-Kalamullah” was completed in two years, Prof Dr Tahir Mustafa told the media, adding during the days of Holy Prophet (PBUH), Sahaba (RA), his companions, also wrote down Holy Quran in the form of Wahi (divine revelation) in dot-less Arabic words. He said those manuscripts could be seen in some of the old libraries in the world. Dr Tahir Mustafa is the son of noted scholar Maulana Abdul Majeed Arif, a graduate of Jamia Khair-ul-Madaris, Jallundhar, and disciple of noted scholar of subcontinent Maulana Ataullah Shah Bukhari. He said Dars-e-Kalamullah could be called a miracle and a wonder of Urdu language. Many scholars have termed the first and unique Urdu translation of Quran ‘a beautiful and unique’ addition to Urdu literature.
Earlier, Mulla Faizi, a minister in the cabinet of Mughal King Jalaluddin Akbar, penned down a commentary of Quran in Arabic language using words without dots.
