Police kill two ‘gangsters’ in Lyari shootout
Rangers nab several suspected terrorists and target killers

Two suspected gangsters were killed by police in a shootout in Lyari and several alleged terrorists and target killers affiliated with banned outfits and political parties arrested by the Rangers on Saturday.
The Chakiwara police in an early morning raid in Mundri Mohallah, Lyari killed two alleged gangsters. The police said the gangsters had fired gunshots at them, injuring head constable Mohammed Anwer, 45.
The police retaliated and arrested two gangsters in an injured condition while their companions escaped. The injured gangsters were shifted to the Civil Hospital where they expired. The police said the two men were yet to be identified.
Arrests
Rangers said they had arrested four Muttahida Qaumi Movement activists in a raid in Korangi. A Rangers spokesperson said the four men were produced before an anti-terrorism court, which had approved their 90-day preventive detention.
One of them was identified as Waseem Ahmed alias Shama, an MQM sector in-charge in Korangi. The spokesperson said Ahmed was operating a group of target killers involved in murdering police officials and others.
Two others were identified as Mohammad Waseem and Mohammad Ibrahim. The spokesperson said these two men were involved in in many heinous crimes including land grabbing and extorting traders in Korangi. The spokesperson said the fourth one, Asghar Yaqoob, bought weapons and ammunition for the party’s Shah Faisal and Korangi sectors. Besides, he added, Yaqoob also provided illegal water connections in Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal and other areas for money.
Separately, the paramilitary force conducted two separate raids in the areas near MA Jinnah Road and II Chundrigar Road and arrested two men.
The spokesperson said Riaz, a member of the Lyari-based Ustaad Taju gang’s target killing team, was arrested near M A Jinnah Road.
He confesses too killing five people and was also involved in kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other criminal cases.
The other man, Aqeel, a member of General Post Office’s MQM Labour Division, was nabbed near II Chundrigar Road on a complaint lodged by the GPO’s employees.
The spokesperson said Aqeel extorted money the employees. The money was used for terrorism.
The two men were taken to an anti-terrorism court, which approved their 90-day preventive detention. Rangers also raided the hideouts of banned outfits in Ittehad Town and rounded up 10 suspects.
In raids conducted in Lea Market and Shah Faisal Colony, the paramilitary force arrested seven suspected target killers affiliated with a political party and its splinter group.
The paramilitary force conducted raids in Bilal Colony, Mehran Town, Mauripur, Korangi Industrial Area and Quaidabad and nabbed five suspected terrorists affiliated with banned groups.
