This refers to the editorial, ‘Smooth sailing’ (November 21). The smooth running of the election process during the second phase of the local bodies elections is a positive development in our electoral culture. It indicates political maturity of voters as well as those running the election.

Merely criticising the sitting government is not enough to win electoral support of the masses. Those who are challenging the government ought to come up with a better record of performance, or at least with a programme of solid, practicable improvements in governance. Rhetoric alone is no longer enough to win people over.
