LAHORE
Religious leaders rejected as casual and insincere the partial apology offered by former British prime minister Tony Blair over waging a destructive war on Iraq for unjustified reasons, and demanded the United Nations to initiate war crimes trial on George Bush and Tony Blair for killing millions of Iraqis and destroying the country.
Jamiat Ahle Hadith president Senator Sajid Mir said mere verbal apology over invading and destroying Iraq and killing over a million innocent citizens was meaningless, adding that both George Bush and Tony Blair should be tried for war crimes and Iraqi people should be compensated.
Sajid Mir said mere verbal apology was just an eyewash since over a million people were killed and they could not return with a casual and verbal apology by Blair.
He said Blair apologised only for certain aspects of those unjustified wars but did not express any remorse on invading two countries for fake reasons.
He said such a casual apology could not heal the deep spiritual wounds caused to the entire Muslim Ummah. He said any meaningful compensation for Iraqi and Afghan people would be that US and British armies should vacate Iraq and Afghanistan immediately and rebuild the devastated infrastructure. He said Tony Blair’s apology was actually a vindication of Saddam Hussain’s stance. He demanded the United Nations to set up a war crimes commission to try George Bush and Tony Blair.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan President Pir Ijaz Hashmi said Blair admission of ‘mistakes’ in Iraq war proved the entire conspiracy to invade sovereign Muslim states by fake reasons. Talking to media on Monday, he said US and UK must tender unconditional apology over invading Iraq to remove Saddam Hussain and pay blood money to the heirs of all those killed in the war.
He said entire Middle East was bleeding with Muslim blood ever since Bush and Blair faked intelligence reports of WMDs to attack Iraq.
He said due to conspiracies by US, UK and western countries against Muslim world had plunged the whole world into unrest while Muslim blood was spilling like water, but the UN was playing the role of US slave.
'US responsible for bloodshed in Gulf': Central President Tehreek-e-Istaqlal Rehmat Khan Wardag has said the statement of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair that supporting the US attack on Iraq was a mistake proved that the US was responsible for all the bloodshed in the Arab country.
In a statement issued on Monday, Rehmat Khan Wardag said the Tony Blair had sought apology from the entire nation for supporting the US in the war against Iraq and it had become obvious that this aggressive mindset eventually led to the origin of Daish.
He also stated that the US was promoting terrorism at global level and restoration of peace in the Muslim world wasn’t possible unless the United Nations barred the United States from committing the heinous crime of targeting innocent people.
Rehmat Khan Wardag also said that in the region of South Asia, India was also following the similar pattern and sabotaging regional peace.
He said Pakistan was taking all the measures for restoring peace in the region, but Indian policies created hurdles in the way of any step meant for the prosperity of this part of the world. He also said that Pakistan couldn’t end its nuclear programme at any cost as it was vital to maintain an equalibrium between Pakistan and India.
