Eight suspects were arrested and over 7,000 liquor bottles and 3,000 beer cans seized on Thursday as the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) busted a major smuggling network operational along the coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.
The bust, as per a PCG statement, was initiated by a tip-off that led to patrolling marine units flagging a launch out in the Tussak area near Ormara for checking. The vessel's crew, however, did not stop and tried to make a getaway but were intercepted after a chase. A search of the boat led to the recovery of hidden cavities concealing 1,131 bottles of foreign liquor and 3,290 beer cans.
During interrogation, the arrested suspects divulged details about another consignment en route to a location along Sindh's coastal belt. Teams were duly deployed and managed to track down the shipment in a truck parked at a farmhouse in Gharo, Thatta. A total of 6,863 bottles of foreign liquor were found in the vehicle.
Along with the alcohol, the PCG teams also confiscated two trucks, one fishing launch and a speedboat belonging to the smugglers. Cases had been registered and further investigations were underway.
ANF operation
The Anti-Narcotics Force on Thursday claimed to have seized 1,200 kilograms of hashish and 1,584 bottles of wine during a raid at the Goth Ali Mohammad Jat, Highway road.
On a tip-off, personnel intercepted a Toyota Hilux, KH-6237, and found the drug consignment in it.
One man was apprehended at the scene and a case has been registered against him.
More raids are being conducted in various areas of the province to apprehend the syndicate involved in the crime, an official claimed.
