PESHAWAR: The Friends of Paraplegics (FOP) staged a walk on Sher Shah Suri Road on Monday to raise awareness about spinal cord injuries.
Led by FOP general secretary Irfanullah, Ihsan Danish, Afshan Afridi and Furqan, the demonstrators carried banners and placards. Sitting in wheelchairs, the participants marched on the road outside the Peshawar Press Club.
The speakers said that according to the WHO, every year 200,000 to 500,000 people got disabled due to spinal cord injuries while 7,000 to 10,000 people were disabled in Pakistan annually.
Majority of the patients committed suicide or faced acute problems due to non-availability of proper care and treatment.
