National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) commemorated the National Disaster Awareness Day on Thursday evening in collaboration with all Provincial/Regional Disaster Management Authorities across the country.
To mark the day, NDMA organised a special event at Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9), Islamabad, which was graced by spokesperson to Prime Minister Masadik Malik as chief guest and also attended by Federal Minister for Information Senator Pervaiz Rasheed. NDMA Chairman Maj Gen Asghar Nawaz besides representatives from the UN community and diplomats, senior government officials, general public, school children and girls guide/boys scouts.
The objective of observing this day is to create awareness amongst the people for better preparedness against disasters. The day also dedicates to the fond memories of those families, parents and children who fell victim to natural/manmade catastrophe.
NDMA organised a flag march of emergency response units of CDA's Search and Rescue Teams.
Similarly, an informal and somber Candle Vigil Ceremony was also held at the venue where one minute silence was observed in memory of the victims of past disasters.
Speaking on the occasion Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid appreciated NDMA for organising the event and expressed deep condolence with the bereaved families of the disaster victims. He also urged that for a resilient and safer Pakistan better awareness amongst the masses is of paramount importance.
The Ceremony concluded with prayers for the departed souls of disaster victims and safety of Pakistan.
