Rawalpindi: The Solid Waste Management Company (SWMC) started a cleanliness campaign on Thursday and provided polythene bags free of cost to every house in Union Council-30, including Chah Sultan, Shah Kaku and Block-C (Satellite Town).
In the first phase, the Albayrak Company is providing polythene bags free of cost in UC-30 localities so that people can put garbage in them. People have been asked to put their household garbage outside their homes so that sanitary workers can collect them. The Solid Waste Management Company has appealed to public to put garbage in polythene bags to stop breeding of mosquitoes and flies.
The campaign will continue for a long time as the Solid Waste Management Company wants to educate people about their responsibilities in keeping their surroundings neat and clean. Public can call toll free number '1139' for registering their complaints.
Solid Waste Management Company (SWMC) Managing Director Irfan Ahmed Qureshi told ‘The News’ that they have started a cleanliness campaign in Rawalpindi on Friday. “We would provide polythene bags free of cost to every house so that people could put their household garbage in them and place them outside their houses. Sanitary workers would lift these polythene bags and take them to garbage lifting vehicles on daily basis,” he claimed. He appealed to housewives to utilise these bags and put their daily garbage in them.
