A policeman was shot and injured for resisting a mugging bid in North Karachi on Sunday. According to the Sir Syed police, the incident took place at Sector 11-C of North Karachi.
The police said 24-year-old Adil Ahmed, son of Ghayas Ahmed, was injured by two men for resisting their mugging bid near Ahmed’s home. The injured policeman was subsequently taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment. He sustained a bullet injury in his shoulder and was later admitted to a private hospital.
SHO Nawaz Brohi said Adil Ahmed was posted to the investigation wing of the District Central Police. In the last week of December, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the additional inspector general of the Karachi police “to do whatever is needed to absolutely clear the mess of street crime in the city”.
However, muggings are still common in the streets of Karachi, with armed criminals robbing helpless citizens with impunity. They do not hesitate to shoot the victim dead if the mugging bid is resisted, creating an atmosphere of fear among the dwellers of the city.
