PESHAWAR: Various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the provincial capital, received rain and snowfall on Tuesday, bringing the temperature down.
The light rain lashed the provincial capital in the morning while the weather remained cloudy throughout the day. The hilly areas, including Malam Jabba, Kalam, Upper Dir, Chitral and Parachinar received snowfall. The upper parts of Hazara received the second spell of heavy snowfall on Tuesday. The heavy rain and snowfall started in Mansehra, Torghar, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan and Kolai-Palas districts after a week’s interval. The road leading to Shogran, a tourist resort, was blocked to traffic because of the heavy snowfall. According to locals, Shogran, Kaghan valley, Siran valley, Konsh valley, Chaterplain, Sharkol and other high altitude mountainous parts received over eight inch of snowfall. The recent spell of rain and snowfall also brought mercury down. According to the Metrological Department, Skardu remained the coldest place with -17 degree centigrade followed by Astore and Gupis -12, Bagrote, Parachinar -10, Malam Jabba-5, Kalam-4. Weather pundits predict more rain with snowfall over the hills today (Wednesday) at isolated places of KP, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Fog is also expected to blanket the plain areas of Punjab and districts of upper Sindh during morning and evening hours while cold and dry weather is expected in other parts of the country.
