LAKKI MARWAT: The residents of Darra Pezu on Tuesday urged the provincial government to start construction work on the 13-year delayed project of the Government Degree College (boys) in their area.

Ch Salman, Abdul Baseer, Inamullah, Sajjad Gul and Muhammad Ismail said that the government had approved construction of the Government Degree College (boys) in Darra Pezu through the hectic efforts made by Dr Khalid Raza Zakori in 2007. They said the college could not be constructed even after 13 years due to the political wrangling. The residents alleged that some politicians tried to shift the site for the college from Darra Pezu to Banuchi Wanda and Masha Mansoor but the bid to change the site was thwarted after the protest staged by the residents of the Darra Pezu.

“The members of the Provincial Inspection Team paid several visits to Darra Pezu in the past to inspect the proposed site for the construction of the college and expressed satisfaction over it,” Ch Salman said.

The residents said that the Darra Pezu Town had a population of about 30,000 registered votes but had been deprived of basic facilities including health and education.

They said that most of the students quit education after passing matriculation from the Government High School in Darra Pezu as they were unable to go to Lakki Marwat, Serai Naurang or Dera Ismail Khan due to poor financial condition and the long distance.

The residents said youths of the area wanted to continue education but were unable to do so due to non-existence of college.
