Importance of research for varsities highlighted

LAHORE:Punjab University’s Office of Research Innovation & Commercialisation (ORIC) organised a workshop on “National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU)” at the university’s Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology (ICET) for the awareness of faculty members and researchers.

Prof Dr Muhammad Arshad Javed, ORIC Director, highlighted the importance of National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU) of Higher Education Commission for progressive Pakistan.

Prof Dr Abdullah Khan Durrani, ICET Director, delivered a talk regarding the technical evaluation of research projects while around 200 faculty members participated in this workshop.

Assistant professors Dr Uzma Qaisar and Dr Maliha Uroos were the resource persons of the workshop. They briefed about the submission and getting the National Research Programme for Universities research projects.

They stated that National Research Programme for Universities was a flagship research programme of Higher Education Commission (HEC) for funding research grants on competitive merit for high-level and promising scientific research projects that demonstrate strategic relevance and impact on local industry and society. They said the main focus of the programme was on competitively selecting research projects that would address national priorities through supporting basic and applied research.

PSCA: A delegation of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) visited the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) headquarters.

The delegation included LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, Senior Vice-President Ali Hassam Asghar, Vice-President Mian Zahid Javed.

Punjab Safe Cities Authority Managing Director Malik Ali Amir briefed the delegates on PSCA scope and ambit.

The integrated policing have reduced the police response time in the City, he said, adding, “We are playing our optimum part in restoring peace and intelligently managing traffic in the City.” Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry president appreciated the PSCA, saying it helped reduce the crime rate.

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry SVP said it was amazing to see this marvel of technology in Pakistan.

The delegation was briefed about various arms and functions of the project dealing in 15 operations, Police Dispatch Unit, Video Control Unit, Media Monitoring Unit and the PSCA insignia Cam-surveillance Operations Management Centre.
