Islamabad: A conference to formulate joint mechanism against narcotics and drug abuse in academic institutions was held here on Wednesday.
ANF Director General Major General Khawar Hanif, while speaking on the occasion, said that many steps are been taken by the ANF for prevention, interdiction, seizure, prosecution and drug demand reduction of narcotics in Pakistan.
He highlighted the challenges being faced by the ANF in intelligence acquisition, operational capability, dearth of manpower and budgetary constraints, including environmental challenges emanating from drug situation in neighbouring countries.
The DG said "Youth is our asset and we need to safeguard it from drug abuse. We are in contact with other countries to curb drug abuse to the maximum. Pakistan’s Anti-Narcotics Force is among the best forces in the world. If we are provided with the state-of-the-art equipment then we can catch more than 90% drug peddling cases. More than 90% drug smuggling cases are caught through our vigilant force."
