LAHORE
Punjab PTI organiser Ch Muhammad Sarwar has demanded sacking of all of the four provincial members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and asked the government to make required constitutional amendments to improve electoral laws and rules besides imposing tough punishments for rigging and irregularities.
If those responsible for rigging in the general elections were allowed to go scot free, this would be tantamount to conspiracy against democracy, he said in a statement on Tuesday.
Ch Sarwar said the ECP four provincial members had lost all moral grounds to stay in their offices. He said the PTI would continue condemning their further stay in the offices as it would be tantamount to desecrating the sanctity of people’s mandate. Ch Sarwar said it would be inevitable to remove the ECP members and stressed that the government should legislate, if there was any legal hitch in removing the members.
In the presence of such members, he said, it would be impossible to hold local bodies elections in a free and fair manner in Punjab. He said there were more chances of rigging in local bodies elections than in the general elections. Ch Sarwar said PTI’s demand for action against the ECP officials responsible for rigging, had become the voice of the whole nation. He said the party would use all options including protest and sit-in for its rights. He said the nation and the history would never forgive the rulers for injustice and excesses committed against people of Pakistan. He said the PTI would be the only political party to give relief to all segments of people including farmers in the country. Now, he said, nobody could expect any good from the rulers. On the ongoing injustice to the farmers, he said the party chief Imran Khan was a patriotic leader and stressed that the nation should unite with him to save the country from impending crises. He said the PTI would continue to struggle and support farmers for their due rights.
