KARACHI: Professional Squash Association (PSA) has moved the prestigious $50,000 Pakistan Open to March from January next year.
PSA in its annual report for 2019 released on November 22 mentioned Pakistan Open as a confirmed event to be held in January 2020. But in its latest annual report PSA has moved this bronze category event to March next year. “This happened because the organisers have not yet managed to get it registered,” said a source.
The source added that this event is not appearing in the annual calendar of PSA for 2020 which means the organisers have yet to get it registered. “If the organisers fail to submit registration fee this time also, it will get delayed further or it may be allotted to some other organisers,” said the source.
It is to be noted that Pakistan Open was originally scheduled in 2019 but PSA due to security reasons did not allot it to Pakistan for the current year. Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) senior vice president Aamir Masood met with PSA CEO Alex Gough and WSF President Jacque Fontaine recently in this regard.
The meeting was quite fruitful and PSA quashed the condition of submitting security fee for Pakistan Open and now this is a confirmed event by PSA to be held in March.
