MUZAFFARGARH: Activists of the Peoples Seraiki Party on Sunday staged a demonstration against a proposed coal-fired power plant near Mehmood Kot and a nuclear power plant near Chowk Sarwar Shaheed in Muzaffargarh district.
The protesters wearing surgical masks were led by PSP chief Malik Zul Norain Bhutta. They chanted slogans against the proposal and said that the government had already established the Pak-Arab Refinery and three thermal power stations in Kot Addu, Lalpir and Muzaffargarh, which had polluted the air and water and causing various diseases including cancer in the areas.
Malik Zul Norain Bhutta while speaking on the occasion said that the already established power stations had destroyed their mango orchards and crops. He said that when the people of the areas protested, police registered a case against 175 people. He demanded immediate withdrawal from the case.
