More illegal structures razed to ground as KMC continues anti-encroachment drive

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) Anti-Encroachment Department carried out different operations in the city’s Central district, according to a statement released by the department on Tuesday.

The anti-encroachment operations were carried out in the supervision of the department’s senior director, Bashir Siddiqui, in New Karachi area, near Khayyam Bus Stop, at Six Thousand Road and at Dua Chowk.

Speaking to The News, Siddiqui shops which were illegally built on rain drains at Dua Chowk were demolished during the operation. Also, he added, all illegal shops were razed to the ground at Khayyam Bus Stop.

Several cabins, birds’ cages, food stalls and chairs and tables of tea kiosks were confiscated by the authorities. Law enforcers were also present during the operation. The authorities also demolished several foot stalls and tea kiosks set up over rain drains by shop owners. Cemented slabs were also removed from rain drains which were placed by owners of meat shops.

All sunshades, grills, walls and extended portions of shops were razed to the ground with heavy machinery, while meat stalls, cabins and pushcarts set up on footpaths were confiscate. According to Siddiqui, few faulty vehicles standing in the vicinity were also removed by the department and moved to their stores.

Meanwhile, the KMC also announced carrying out five major anti-encroachment operations near Clifton, at Plastic Market near MA Jinnah Road, Shah Faisal Colony, Azeem Pura Graveyard and Korangi 2 ½ number.
