PESHAWAR: Protest rallies were staged in various parts of the province against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Norway.
In the provincial capital, the protesters gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against Norway and other western countries for not taking steps to curb Islamophobia.
The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the desecration. The protesters said that Islam was the religion of peace and teach respect of every religion. The act has hurt the feelings of Muslims across the world, they added.
Our correspondent adds from Timergara: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Lower Dir chapter, staged protest against desecration of the Holy Quran by a group of people at Norway and to express solidarity with the youth who was arrested after he tried to thwart the bid. Hundreds of JI activists and people from all walks of life attended the rally.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Norwegian government.
Speaking on the occasion, JI Lower Dir head and former member provincial assembly (MPA) Aizazul Mulk Afkari demanded the government to sever diplomatic and trade relations with Norway.
