Sindh govt moves against corrupt officials

KARACHI: Sindh government has decided to bring reforms in Sindh Anti-Corruption and Inquiries Department and to accelerate the proceedings of corruption cases pending against the officers and officials of the provincial government, The News learnt.
According to the official figure of the Sindh Anti-Corruption Department 21,439 cases against government officials are pending for the last ten years. The Department sources informed The News that these cases were pending due to the influence of the officers, their political backing and also due to the negligence of Anti-Corruption Department.
The Department has now decided to start inquiries of all cases within one month, added these sources. The chief minister Sindh a week earlier posted a well-reputed DMG officer Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah as Chairman of the Department and gave him free hand to deal with the corrupt elements.
Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah ordered the formation of Intelligence Wing within the Department to discover the corruption cases. Earlier the Department only relied on the media reports and complaints by common citizens and there was no internal mechanism to check the corruption. Chairman Anti-Corruption Department Syed Mumtaz Ali told The News that no corrupt person would be spared now. He said the Sindh chief minister has given him free hand to take action against corrupt officers.
Mr Shah confirmed the formation of Intelligence Wing. He added that no influence by any Sindh minister or by any elected representatives and other officers will be accepted in action against corruption.
“we are removing some officers from the Anti-Corruption Committees as there are complaints against these officers who as Assistant Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Commissioners are the members of different committees. He said over 10 influential officers of Sindh Police working with the Department were also sent back to their parent department”, concluded Mr Shah.
