KARACHI: Pakistan’s top squash player Amir Atlas Khan has termed the central contract offered to six players by Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) a joke, stressing that it would do no good to the game in the country.
“The federation through this contract is turning the players into beggars. A few thousand rupees being offered to top players of the country is just a joke. Still me and Farhan Mehboob are excluded from the contract which is another failure of the federation,” Amir told ‘The News’.
He added that the top officials of the federation, especially its senior vice president, are responsible for the downfall of squash.
“This is the reason why I will soon accept a contract offered to me by another country to play using their logo. They read about the injustice being done to me by PSF and offered me this contract,” he said.
Amir claimed that money is no issue for him and he could easily earn his livelihood through his valuable career in squash. “But the loss would be only of Pakistan and PSF. The federation is ignoring the heroes of this game, which in turn would create more problems for Pakistan squash,” added Amir.
He said the officials of the federation don’t give respect to the players who have won many laurels for the country. “Just one example in this regard is enough. They invite players for camps and due to shortage of accommodation players are being forced to sleep in offices. This is how they treat us,” complained Amir.
He said he talked to the new president of PSF but to no avail. “The new president of PSF must come forward to rescue this game. He has to play his due role for squash,” concluded Amir.
