PESHAWAR: A former federal minister and senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Arbab Alamgir Khan Wednesday said that once again the establishment was trying to push the party to the wall which would prove damaging for the democracy and the country as well.
Talking to The News, he said the democracy should be allowed to flourish and no one be provided a chance to derail the process. He requested all the democratic people not to allow such an attempt because the solution to all the problems of the country rested with democracy alone. The PPP leader feared the coming days would be more dangerous. He urged the political leadership to keep an eye on the situation.
Regarding the rifts in PPP, Arbab Alamgir said the party failed to perform in the May 30 local government elections and the PPP provincial leadership should have resigned. He said Syed Zahir Ali Shah, a former PPP provincial president, was served with a show-cause notice after he criticised the electoral alliance with the Awami National Party.
However, he said, it was very strange that the provincial president Khanzada Khan also expressed similar views, but no action was taken against him. Arbab Alamgir said morally all the office-bearers of the party should have resigned after humiliating defeat by the party in the local government elections.
