Dangerous nexus

This refers to the editorial, ‘Dangerous nexus’ (June 13). Following the appearance of the Rangers’ report documenting widespread financial terrorism in Karachi and its nexus with the crimes mafia, political leaders have started a tirade against the Rangers. The reason for this is that the members of the Sindh government as well government functionaries under them are themselves involved in these activities. The editorial has suggested: “But the campaign to achieve this has to be well-thought-out, backed ideally by political will.” Neither is there any political will – both at the centre or the provincial levels – because they are also beneficiaries of the present system. You cannot expect a thief to catch another thief.
In this connection, I support the call of former ISI DG Gen (r) Hameed Gul to suspend the constitution and the army to take over the affairs of the state for a period of around two years.
