3,500 litres of adulterated milk discarded

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority discarded 3,500 litres of adulterated milk in a snap checking at Peshawar Motorway Toll on Thursday.

While checking the heavy and passengers’ vehicles, a quantity of thousand litres of counterfeit cold drinks has also been discarded, said a press release. Director Operations Khalid Khan Khattak said that a team comprising an assistant director, food safety officer and a veterinary doctor was deployed at Peshawar Motorway Toll plaza. He added that 3,500 litres of adulterated milk was confiscated from two containers to be supplied to the capital city and later discarded. Assistant Director Dr Murad Ali said a heavy vehicle carrying a thousand litres of substandard counterfeit cold drinks was intercepted. “The driver tried to escape, but the authority’s team chased and arrested him. The owner of the goods was handed over to police,” said Murad. Director General Food Authority Riaz Khan appreciated the crackdown and said that provision of safe and healthy food to the general public is the mandate of food authority and such crackdowns would continue.
