He fired superb breaks of 67 and 87 in the second and fifth frame respectively while he was at his best during the compilation of his classy break of 124 in the fourth frame.
Second seed M Asif, who was extremely fortunate to have found a place in the knockout rounds after indifferent form in the earlier matches, brought all his experience into play to edge out the dangerous Haris Tahir 5-3 with the frame scores of 53-70, 68-38, 29-85, 68-10, 71-0, 84-23, 88-12.
