PESHAWAR: The teachers and students of the historic Islamia College University honoured a senior Pashto writer, Saadullah Jan Barq, at a function organised at the Khyber Union Hall here on Thursday.
The event was held to acknowledge the literary services of Saadullah Jan Barq, who is also a poet, playwright and columnist.
The teachers and students of ICU awarded him college souvenir in recognition of his valuable contributions to the Pashto language and literature.
Prof Abaseen Yousafzai, in his opening speech, said that Saadullah Jan Barq enjoyed widespread respect among literary circles because of his vast knowledge on several disciplines including literature, historiography, research and mysticism, adding he had influenced the young generation.
Addressing, the event, Barq said: “. Obstacles shouldn’t weaken your spirit and shouldn’t blur your vision from achieving your set target. You should bring out talent, get inspiration from your national heroes and struggle of those leaders who had nothing but moved on with their confidence and a clarity of vision,” the senior writer said.
Prof Zar Mohammad Sangar in his remarks said the senior writer had accomplished many milestones during his literary journey.
Sajjad Jadoon, a young writer, said the octogenarian Pashto writer had contributed to more than one field of writing and left no stone unturned in educating his people whether Pakhtun nationalism especially Bacha Khan’s philosophy of non-violence or social reformation.
