Man guns down son-in-law over love marriage

LAHORE: A man killed his son-in-law on Friday over contracting love marriage with his daughter 10 days back in the Islampura police limits.

The victim has been identified as Zubair, a resident of Sant Nagar. A police official said the victim had contracted love marriage with one Aqsa, daughter of Arshad Gujjar. After he returned from honeymoon from Islamabad, his father-in-law allegedly shot him dead. The accused fled.

Police collected the forensic evidences from the crime scene. The body was removed to morgue. Further investigation is underway. Two held: Chung investigation police on Friday arrested two accused of murder of a British national of Pakistani origin, Wine Albert Bergenza. The accused have been identified as Ehtisham Elahi and his fiancée Ayesha. The accused woman told police that she had developed illicit relations with the victim and the latter wanted to marry her. Over this, she plotted to kill him in Sheikhupura with the abutment of her fiancé. The victim was kidnapped on March 4. Police registered a case against unidentified persons.

Meanwhile, hundreds of lady police officers and officials of Lahore Police held a walk. The walk, led by Iqbal Town SP Investigation Shazia Sarwar, started from Lahore Press Club and ended at Faisal Chowk, The Mall. Aurat Foundation Provincial Nanager Nabeela Shaheen also participated in the event. The participants in the walk were holding banners with the slogans and messages of importance of equal rights for women.

tribute: The Punjab Emergency Service celebrated the International Women’s Day at Rescue Headquarters to pay tributes to all woman rescuers and acknowledge their valuable contribution to the development of Pakistan.

Punjab Emergency Service Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer said, “We feel proud of the contribution of our working ladies, especially those who belong to martyrs’ families.” He also applauded the efforts and services of the female rescue officers placed at Rescue Headquarters and their contributions towards development of safer communities in Pakistan.

PHP: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) Additional IG Ahmed Latif visited the under-construction building of PHP and Investigation Complex. He visited various parts of the boundary wall and campus. The PHP additional IG said that special measures should be adopted to minimise the intensity of earthquake jolts in the building. There would be no compromise on the quality of building material, he warned. He directed that the campus construction work should be completed till June 30, 2019. DSP Buildings Naveeda Hameed, SDO Buildings Muhammad Nouman, Sub-Engineer Muhammad Sajjad and PSO Zulfiqar Ali were also present.

Security: Security of the mosques and other religious places, including Imambargahs, remained tight in the metropolis on Friday. DIG Operations Muhammad Waqas Nazir issued directions to all the divisional SPs, DSPs and SHOs to ensure foolproof security arrangements.
