NWA elders ask forces not to demolish markets, shops

PESHAWAR: Tribal elders from the North Waziristan Agency on Thursday asked the government and the security forces not to demolish markets and shops in Mir Ali and Miranshah bazaars and allow the traders to shift belongings from these outlets.
Addressing a news conference here at the Peshawar Press Club, Malik Khan Marjan and other tribal elders from Miranshah and Mir Ali said the traders and shopkeepers had left shops and markets in haste before launch of the military operation.
They said food items had got rotten while huge stocks of electronic devices and other commodities were still lying in the markets. “Now we have come to know that the security forces want to demolish the markets and stores in Miranshah and Mir Ali bazaars,” Malik Khan Marjan said.
The elders said that the tribesmen from North Waziristan had already suffered human and material losses due to military operation and could not afford more.
They urged the federal government to compensate the families which suffered human and material losses in the military operation and make proper arrangements for the early return of displaced people to their native areas.
