A committee of academic experts met on Wednesday at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat to review the procedure of the HEC foreign degree equivalence system entrusted to the Higher Education Commission.
The committee members were briefed regarding HEC recognition of degrees of only those universities which are enlisted with Unesco and also accredited by respective government agencies of their country of origin.
Degree holders are required to submit original documents from Matric onward to highest degree including original passport for study duration along with entry and exit visa for that duration. The final recognition letter issued after receipt of degree confirmation from university.
The meeting was presided over by Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed.
The experts included former member of HEC Dr. Altaf Ali G. Shaikh, former adviser of HEC Javed Khan, former DG of Attestation and Accreditation, HEC R. B Channa and DG Human Resource Management Raza Chohan, DG Academics Fida Hussain, DG Planning and Development HEC Dr Mazhar Saeed.
The members were also informed that to assess the accredited status of foreign universities HEC consults. The world list of universities published by Unesco, accredited institutions of post-secondary education published by American Council on Higher Education, International Hand Book of Universities, Commonwealth Universities Yearbook, Europa World of Learning and World Guide to Higher Education Comparative Survey of Systems Degrees and Qualifications.
