Three names sent to CM for KCD principal appointment

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has forwarded the names of three senior most doctors to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to select one of them as principal of the Khyber College of Dentistry. The post of principal KCD had fallen vacant in March after Dr Qiamuddin Khan retired from service.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has forwarded the names of three senior most doctors to Chief Minister Pervez Khattak to select one of them as principal of the Khyber College of Dentistry.
The post of principal KCD had fallen vacant in March after Dr Qiamuddin Khan retired from service. After his retirement, the government appointed senior faculty member Dr Ghulam Rasool on acting charge basis and directed him to work till a regular principal was appointed.
According to the summary, a copy of which was obtained by The News, the panel comprises of Dr Hashim Khan, Dr Shuja Ansari and Dr Ghulam Rasool. As per details of the summary, Dr Hashim Khan’s qualification is paedodontics or paediatric dentistry. He is BDS and has done MSc (minor diploma).
He has published nine papers and attended 22 workshops. Dr Hashim Khan is postgraduate supervisor or examiner of DCD two-year programme. He has four postgraduate students under his training.
He has served as head of department, vice principal and chairman of different committees such as purchase, ethical, security and technical. Dr Hashim Khan has also served as staff editor of the college magazine, in-charge library affairs, member publication and evaluation committee.
In the summary, second name is of Dr Shuja Riaz Ansari. He is specialist in maxillofacial surgery. He is BDS and has done MDSC (minor diploma).Dr Shuja Riaz Ansari has published 18 papers compared to nine of Dr Hashim Khan.
However, he attended 12 workshops compared to 22 of Dr Hashim Khan. He has no experience in postgraduate teaching, according to the summary.Dr Shuja Ansari has experience of having served as head of department, staff editor of the college magazine and chairman inspection committee.
The third name in the list is Dr Ghulam Rasool. He is BDS in Orthodontics or the specialty of dentistry concerned with treatment of improper bites and crooked teeth. Besides BDS, according to the summary, Dr Ghulam Rasool has done two-year MCPS, four-year FCPS that is considered a major qualification, and two-year MHPE. He has published 24 papers and four more have been accepted for publication.
Dr Ghulam Rasool has attended 30 workshops compared to Dr Hashim’s nine and Dr Shuja Riaz Ansari’s 18.
He is supervisor and examiner, DCD (2 years programme), MDS (4 years programme), MCPs (2 years programme and, FCPS (4 years programme). There are 25 postgraduate students under his training.
He served as caretaker principal of the college, head of department, in-charge of students affairs (2003-2006), chairman inspection committee (2010-2013) and staff editor college magazine “Qindeel”. He also remained member of different committees including technical, inspection, technical committee KMU, associate editor JKCD, associate editor POJ, reviewer POJ, reviewer PODJ, reviewer JMS, reviewer JCPSP.
Dr Ghulam Rasool is the first professor in the province who did FCPS in dentistry.
He is said to be the only supervisor for the four major postgraduate courses in the college. He also had completed masters degree in medical education from the KMU. After learning that the government is planning to appoint principal for the college, most of the faculty members started efforts to get the position.
However, senior officials of the Health Department told The News that the government had decided to uphold merit and would appoint a senior and qualified faculty member as principal of the college.
