The students of Westminster School & College celebrated their 13th Annual Sports Day at the Pakistan Sports Complex with great zeal and fervour, says a press release.
Hundreds of students between the ages of 6 and 13 participated in the spectacular event while the enthusiastic spectators cheered on. The bright day was electrified by the Red and Navy Blue colours of the Jinnah and Iqbal Houses splashed across banners, t-shirts and flags. The students’ excitement in supporting their respective houses was contagious. The grounds reverberated with feverish enthusiasm as the tempo set in with the students and teachers excitedly cheering.
The event started with an impressive march past, which was followed by recitation of the Holy Quran and the National Anthem. Other highlights of the event were a multitude of races and field events which included: the 30, 50 and 100 metre races, relay race, sack race, three-legged race, egg spoon race, long jump, javelin throw and shot put. Furthermore, the audience were enthralled by the karate show and energetic performances of the young cheerleaders and gymnasts, which showcased an amalgamation of dexterity, precision and synchronisation. The event successfully concluded with a spirited tug of war competition between the two houses.
“The school’s annual sports day is one of the most cherished events of the institute, whereby our students get an opportunity to showcase their multi-faceted talents. I believe it an essential need of the hour to keep our youth continually engaged in healthy physical activities. It is wonderful to see that in addition to bringing forth the athlete in a child, such events also enlighten them about the importance of teamwork, trust, responsibility, competition and dealing with success and failure. They are also a great way to bring parents together in a relaxed environment and build lasting networks and friendships” said Raheel Sajjad Khan, director of the school.
