UNHCR to equip Munshi Hospital

LAHORE
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will provide necessary medical gadgets worth 22.79 million rupees to Government Mian Munshi Hospital. Commissioner Afghan Refugees Ch. Riaz and EDO Health Lahore Dr. Zulfiqar Ali signed an MoU on Saturday in this regard. Adviser on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, DG Health Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, MS Mian Munshi Hospital Dr. Muhammad Amir, DOH Dr. Saeed, and son of founder of Mian Munshi Hospital (late) were also present.
Kh. Salman Rafique thanked Commissioner Afghan Refugees Ch. Riaz and said that earlier UNHCR had also provided three crore rupees for the renovation of maxillofacial ward of the Mayo Hospital.
He said the cooperation of philanthropists and donors was of great importance in the development of health sector. Commissioner Afghan Refugees Ch. Riaz assured that his institution would continue financial cooperation for improving the performance of hospitals. He disclosed that 30 million rupees would be provided by the UNHCR for the project of trauma centre at the Mian Munshi Hospital.
He further said that there was a vast catchment area of Government Mian Munshi Hospital and a large number of Afghan Refugees were residing on the Bund Road and other areas.
Earlier, MS Dr. Muhammad Amir said that there was shortage of doctors and nurses at the Government Mian Munshi Hospital and it needed an increase in the budget of medicines.
He told the media that medical equipments and machines of the hospital were old which would be replaced by the funds to be provided by Commissioner Afghan Refugees which included Ultrasound machine, colour developer, digital X-ray, ECG machine, refrigerator, microscope, sucker machine, Auto Chemistry Analyzer, traction table with machine, dental unit, autoclave, and other equipments.
Kh. Salman Rafique assured of increasing the budget of medicines and removing the shortage of doctors and nurses. He said all the needs of the Mian Munshi Hospital would be fulfilled under the Chief Minister’s Health Roadmap Programme.
