It was right time for Aafia’s repatriation and United States’ administration seemed ready for it.
These views were expressed by Stephen Downs, one of the members of a two-member delegation of civil rights activists and lawyers of United States that reached here on Saturday to review the Dr Aafia Siddiqui case.
He said that Aafia was a political prisoner and as Obama government had exchanged political prisoners with other countries so Aafia’s repatriation would be possible through negotiations.
Another team member, Kathy Manley, said that the Government of Pakistan should demand Aafia’s repatriation formally at the official level. “I would continue to strive at diplomatic level and this would help for Aafia s early repatriation.” She said Aafia was in a critical condition in Texas jail and we were trying to facilitate her medical examination.
Dr Fauzia Siddiqui of the Aafia Movement welcomed the delegation and urged Pakistan government to play its role for her sister’s repatriation. She said that without sincerity of the Pakistani government it was very difficult to bring back Aafia home.
