NOWSHERA: A man and his minor nephew were killed as gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on a van on Grand Trunk (GT) Road near Kund River here on Saturday, police said.
The charged residents and relatives of the deceased put the bodies at the Jehangira Chowk and blocked the GT Road and Nowshera-Swabi road for traffic for two and half hours against the incident.
Police said that one Junaid, his nephew and other relatives had come to Jehangira to change the engine oil of their van. They said that Kabir Alam, Zahoor Alam and Jamal allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on them as soon as the van reached Kund River on GT Road. As a result, Junaid and his nephew Hasnain, 6, were killed on the sport while the others escaped unhurt miraculously.
The accused managed to escape unchallenged. The residents of Tordher placed bodies on the Jehangira Chowk and blocked the GT Road and Nowshera-Swabi road for two and half hours.
They were chanting slogans against the provincial government and police for not taking action against the accused whom they alleged had killed another resident Alam Din some time ago.
They accused the Chota Lahor tehsil nazim Sohail of patronizing the accused and the Swabi police of not taking action against the accused.
The protesters dispersed after the police assured them to arrest the accused at the earliest. It is to be mentioned here that one Muhammad Ali and his sons and grandsons had allegedly tried to grab the joint land of residents of Jehangira in Nowshera and attacked the residents some time ago.
The residents returned the fire in which son of Muhammad Ali, Abdul Wali and two other accomplices had been killed. Later, the sons and a brother of Abdul Wali used to attack the residents in which one Alam Din was killed.
