Would first have to recognise Israel for alliance with Imran: Fazl

MULTAN: Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman on Friday said efforts were being made to impose martial law in the name of freedom of judiciary.

He said it would be unfortunate for the country if Imran Khan became prime minister. One would first have to recognise Israel for entering into an alliance with Imran, Fazl remarked to negate the possibility of joining hands with the PTI chief in the backdrop of Asif Ali Zardari’s statement.

The JUI-F chief said both Nawaz Sharif and Zardari were his personal friends but the political course of action was different from them.

Talking to journalists, he said politicians were the real and only representatives of Pakistanis and only they could serve the nation. “The concept that I am only patriotic and others are not must come to an end. We respect the institutions and the army,” he said.

“The country cannot afford internal crisis now. India and United States have joined hands to attack Pakistan. It is hard to maintain stability in Pakistan when unusual things are happening in country’s politics. The country has been badly encircled by problems”, he said.

“Unabated bomb shells are injuring citizens. If Afghanistan constructs dam on Kabul River to stop water inflow to Pakistan, nobody knows what would happen to Pakistan. The merger of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas would bring more destruction in case the people of Fata are not taken into confidence,” he added.

Fazl said the JUI-F had been supporting creation of Seraiki and Bahawalpur provinces since long. “The members of Janoobi Punjab Sooba Mahaz have remained silent for five years of rule and abruptly emerged in the name of creation of south Punjab province. They are marketing their demand at the eleventh hour when the assemblies are going to end,” he added.

Talking on wheat procurement drive in Punjab, he said farmers were facing serious problems in selling their wheat because the government was not procuring wheat properly. “All canals in Punjab have been closed while India is constructing dam, which is more disturbing than anything else,” he lamented.

Fazl said the MMA was going to hold its first public meeting on May 13 at Minar-i-Pakistan, which would change the political landscape in the country.

Earlier, he visited Dar-e-Bani Hashim and condoled with the family members, including Kafil Shah Bokhari, on the death of Syed Attaul Momin Bokhari, son of Syed Attaullah Shah Bokhari. Later, he went to Gilani house and condoled with former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on the death of his brother-in-law Makhdoom Wajahat Hussain Gilani.
