‘Be Cautious’ campaign launched in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: The Abu Dhabi police have launched a campaign "Be Cautious" to create the awareness among residents of United Arab Emirates (UAE) about fraud messages on social media application such as WhatsApp. The Abu Dhabi Police warned that there were fraud messages on social media applications, such as WhatsApp, which imitate trademarks and trusted websites, with the aim of stealing personal information, such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and others that may lead to problems for users.

The General Command of the Abu Dhabi Police has begun publishing stories of phone fraud victims on its social media platforms, as well as broadcasting videos and awareness messages in Arabic, English, Urdu and Filipino.

Abu Dhabi Police has released a video of a Pakistani victim who received a message from fraudsters claiming that he won a prize. The Pakistani victim has come forward to share his personal experience with phone scammers in the UAE and alert residents about their malicious scheme.

In a short video clip, the man warned the Pakistani community living in UAE not to provide the fraudsters any account number, ATM or pin number or any national ID number to unknown callers. Director of the Security Media Administration of the General Command Affairs Sector Colonel Al Muhairi highlighted the importance of unifying police, community and media efforts.
