CPSP celebrates 10 years of service

The College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) completed 10 years of advance skills courses. A ceremony was held in this regard on Tuesday. University of British Columbia, Canada Professor of Gynecology Prof Duncan Edches was the chief guest.

Since 2007, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan has organised 168 Advance Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses in which 2,612 doctors were trained according to the international standards. 15 ATLS instructor courses were also conducted in which 130 senior doctors were trained to become instructors.

A total of 1,545 Basic Life Support Courses (BLS) were organised in which 20,057 trainee doctors were trained to provide first aid in case of a heart attack. As many as 25 BLS instructor courses were organised in which 175 senior doctors were trained to become instructor.

During the last 10 years, CPSP organised 24 Pediatrics Advance Life Support (PALS) courses in which 259 doctors were trained. Three PALS instructor courses were conducted in which 28 senior doctors were trained.

CPSP had also organised 27 Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) courses in which 583 doctors were trained to provide medical facility during child birth. As many as nine PALS instructor courses were organised in which 99 senior doctors were trained.

172 Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) courses were organised in which 1,924 doctors got trained. 12 ACLS Instructor Courses were conducted in which 79 senior doctors got trained.

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Director Prof Muhammad Tayyab said, “Every 37 minutes a woman dies in Pakistan from complications during childbirth”. International Relations Director General Prof Khalid Masood Gondal said the courses were essential in the health sector of Pakistan. CPSP made these courses compulsory for its trainees in their educational curriculum, he added.
