PFA seals 29 food businesses

LAHORE: In a province-wide crackdown, Punjab Food Authorty sealed 29 food points and fined Rs 0.615 million to 73 outlets for unhygienic conditions and poor food quality on Thursday.

PFA raided approximately 1,000 places and took action against 102 food points for not meeting the standards. Seven food businesses were sealed in Gujranwala, two in Sargodha, four in DG Khan, one in Faisalabad and five each in Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi divisions.

Rotten eggs and rancid oil were being used in preparations of bakery products. All food premises were sealed after discovering adulteration and unhealthy elements in food commodities.

PFA also imposed total Rs 615,500 fine on 73 food points. A fine of Rs 44,000 was imposed on four eateries in Lahore, Rs 144,500 fine on 15 food outlets in Multan, Rs 140,000 on 18 businesses in Rawalpindi, Rs 60,000 on six shops in Sargodha, Rs71,500 on 14 businesses in Gujranwala, Rs115,000 on 10 businesses in DG Khan and Rs40,500 fine on six food points in Faisalabad.

PFA confiscated and destoyed 840 kg adulterated pepper, unhygienic cakes, 960kg dry dates, 460kg salt, 350 kg snakes, 70kg sugar syrup, 1,670 litre adulterated and spoiled milk, 1,800 kg sugar candies, 40 kg Jalaibi, rancid oil and ghee, non-food grade colour and other products.
