FAISALABAD: The British Council is setting up two modern digital libraries in Karachi and Lahore, said British Council Punjab Director Kevin McLaven.
Talking to Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) acting president Nadeem Allahwala here on Thursday, Kevin said that libraries would be established on partnership basis in Faisalabad, Peshawar, Multan and Rawalpindi in the second phase. He underlined the importance of Faisalabad and said that British Council attributed high priority to the city because of its cultural and economic values. He said that the British Council was offering technical assistance to the Chief Minister’s Education Initiative. He said: “We are helping 300,000 primary and middle class teachers for promoting English as the medium of instruction.” He said that curricula of different classes were also being updated to synchronise it with the market needs.
FCCI acting president Nadeem Allahwala demanded establishment of a British Centre in Faisalabad. FCCI president former president Muzamil Sultan said that the FCCI members had adopted a number of technical and vocational centres and they were also working in close liaison with the vocational training institutes (VTI). In the adopted VTIs’, they had introduced the market driven courses, they added. They stressed the need to prepare curricula for fashion designing, Hilal butcher shop and computer pattern designing Courses.
