20 businesses of quacks shut down

LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission on Thursday closed down 20 businesses of quacks in different parts of the city, and initiated proceedings against them.

According to a press release, two teams of the PHC had sealed 20 businesses of quacks. These included seven general quacks, five bone-setters, four each fake dentists and hakeems. The quacks, who were posing as general physicians and were running centres, including Randhawa Clinic, Rifay-e-Aama Dispensary, Al-Rehman Clinic, Lion Clinic, Esa Homeopathic Clinic, Danish Medical Centre and Bajwa Clinic. The teams had also sealed five bone-setters, namely, Aslam Haddi Jorr and Madina Pansar, Fayyaz Sultani Haddi Jorr, Hafizabad Jarrah, Haji Nizam Din Jirrah and M Shafi Jirrah. Four fake dentists, including Elahi Dental Clinic, Zahid Dental Care, Ali Dental Laboratory and Al-Rehman Homoe Clinic, and an equal number of Hakeems Haider Ali Dawakhana, Al-Saudia Tibbi Foundation, Atta Haseeb Dawakhana and Dr Ghulam Nabi Bawaseer Clinic were also closed down.

workshops: Pakistan Islamic Medical Association’s (PIMA) pre-convention workshops are going to be started from Friday (today). Meanwhile, over 1,000 delegates from across the country will arrive at Lahore in this regard.

A spokesperson for PIMA said the workshops will be held in Children Hospital, Pakistan Kidney & Liver Institute and Research Centre, INMOL Hospital, Mayo Hospital and Jinnah Hospital on the topics Transfusion Medicine: Hands on updated techniques, Management of Hepatitis C.
