Islamabad: As many as 5,000 beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and 9,000 children in four districts of the Gilgit-Baltistan region will be immunised and incentivised for their participation under a new $3.5 million grant from the World Bank.

The partnership initiative has become possible by virtue of an agreement signed Wednesday between BISP and the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) in the presence of the Minister for Health Saira Afzal and BISP’s Chairperson Marvi Memon.

Under the partnership, BISP will identify and mobilise eligible beneficiaries through the National Socio-Economic Registry; this will be done in coordination with EPI. Key activities in this connection will include awareness of BISP Beneficiary Committees to involve beneficiaries at the grassroots level; enrolment, compliance monitoring and verification of the process; and establishment of mechanisms for redress of grievances and case management at designated centers for service-related complaints and appeals.

The partnership will also lead to development and maintenance of a Management Information Systems (MIS) for monitoring and reporting framework of the project.
