Bhara Kahu girls college inaugurated

Islamabad: Minister of State for the Capital Administration and Development Division Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry formally inaugurated the Islamabad Model College for Girls, Bhara Kahu.
He also planted a sapling and cut a cake during the inauguration ceremony, where Federal Directorate of Education director-general Hasnat Qureshi and relevant CADD officials were also in attendance.
The minister said the CADD was focusing on the provision of the best possible education to girls in Islamabad Capital Territory feeling educating women meant educating families. He said computer labs had been established in 226 girls schools of Islamabad with the support of the IT ministry, while buses were provided to them on priority basis under the Prime Minister’s Educational Sector Reforms Programme.
The college, the first for girls in Islamabad’s biggest rural locality of Bhara Kahu, has enrolled 100 students in intermediate classes of pre-engineering and pre-medical sections. However, most of its teachers are ‘borrowed’ from other educational institutions of the capital city.
The college’s establishment was the brainchild of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, which directed the relevant authorities in June 2003 to materialise the idea. However, the project stuck in a slow lane afterward due to the red tape for allotment of land and thus, escalating its cost from Rs75 million to Rs250 million over the next years. However, things were right back on course in August 2010 after the Capital Development Authority allotted over 40 kanals of land along the main Murree Road in Kot Hatial for the project.
