NAB chief orders complaint verification against Kh Asif, Dar, others

ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, has ordered complaint verification against Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif allegedly on a money laundering complaint.

In an announcement on Wednesday, the NAB clarified that the complaints are being verified against the accused regarding alleged corruption, which are yet to be proved. It said, the NAB will provide an ample opportunity to Foreign Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, for presenting his point of view, and, only after that if needed, legal proceedings will be taken against him.

Meanwhile, the NAB chairman also ordered a complaint verification against the National Highway Authority for alleged irregularities to the tune of billions of rupees in award of contract for Multan-Sukkur Motorway. The NAB chairman also ordered complaint verification against a Punjab MPA from Gujranwala, Sohail Zafar, for having assets beyond known sources of income.

The NAB chairman also ordered complaint verification against former finance minister Ishaq Dar and Usman Saifullah, Member Policy Board, Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan for their alleged illegalities in appointments.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi NAB has started an inquiry against The Bank of Punjab authorities on the direction of NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal for misuse of authority and loss caused to the national exchequer in the manipulation of shares.

In another case, Rawalpindi NAB has arrested a proclaimed offender Abdul Hameed in case of Islamic Traders of Modarba on the charges of corruption, corrupt practices and cheating public at large using the ploy of Islamic mode of investment.
