Islamabad : While underlining the need for mutual coordination between hospitals and highlighting issues arising as a result of non-implementation of a proper referral system, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has decided not to accept any patient referred to PIMS from any hospital of the country without prior intimation to the deputy director on duty.
In a written correspondence to the Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD), the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has pointed out that a majority of the patients referred to PIMS from various hospitals of Pakistan are facing huge inconvenience due to lack of mutual coordination and neglectful implementation of a referral system.
“Many patients are referred to PIMS without confirming the availability of beds and other required facilities. All concerned treating doctors and hospitals are requested to refer patients to PIMS after confirming the bed position in departments like the MICU, SICU, NICU, Burn Unit, and availability of ventilator from the deputy director on duty,” the hospital’s administrator Dr. Raja Amjad Mehmood has stated in the letter.
The letter also warns that PIMS will not be responsible for any mishap with patients referred without confirming the availability of requisite facilities at the hospital.
