Retired major shot dead in South Cantonment

LAHORE: A retired major was shot dead by a biker in South Cantonment on Friday. The victim, identified as Farrukh Sayab, had established a call centre near the Cavalry Ground after retirement. On the day of the incident, an unidentified biker approached him and shot him dead. Police claimed the incident was the result of an old enmity. Police shifted the body to morgue. However, no case was registered till the filing of the report.

Safe City: Inspector General Police Punjab Captain (R) Arif Nawaz Khan has said that Safe City Project is an excellent project of modern technology and for maintenance of atmosphere of peace, safety of wealth and property of public and problems of traffic management can be resolved by taking advantage from this project.

He expressed these views while addressing a session of assessment of working of safe city project IC3. Additional IG Operations Amir Zulfiqar Khan, DIG Traffic Punjab Farooq Mazhar, SSP Admin Lahore Rana Ayyaz Saleem, CTO Lahore Rai Ejaz Ahmed and SSP investigation Ghulam Mubashir Maiken with all SPs of operational and investigation were present. In this session, MD Punjab Safe City Authority DIG briefed the IG about current progress of safe city project.

The IG said that following this project not only activities of criminals are observed but also working of patrolling forces, PRU and officials deployed at pickets may be monitored. He said that officers of SP rank should keep the field officers aware of current situation with the help of monitoring by cameras so that an in time and immediate proceedings may be started against culprits and anti-social elements of society. He added that MD IC3 and officers of Lahore police should carve out performance indicators with respect to safe city project.

The IGP directed the senior police officers that every possible step should be taken for maintaining peace especially checking street criminals with the help of cameras installed over roads in accordance with the parameters of modern policing. He said the prime object of safe city and other modern technology based projects is to ensure the safety of property and lives of people and extermination of criminals from society.

He said that special attention should be given to the working of front desk projects and monitoring of personnel deployed on this project should be ensured and divisional SPs and circle officers should give them weekly briefing about their duties in order to make progress of this project. He also emphasised upon checking of progress report.

The IGP was briefed about completion of five other projects of safe city in Punjab except Lahore.
