Team Blue emerge winner in Palmers Friendship Golf

LAHORE: Team Blue beat Team Red in Royal Palm Palmers Friendship Golf held between the golfing community of Royal Palm.

The Palmers Friendship Cup represented a golfing combat between the 22 member Team Red captained by Farid Malik and the 22 member Palmers Team Blue captained by Sharjeel Awan at the challenging Royal Palm Golf Course.

Format of this competitive event was Match Play and eleven chosen pairings from each side were there to battle it out with the intention of out golfing each other in terms of application of golfing skills and accuracy in shot making.

And although the Reds Team included some seasoned golf players like Lt Gen (r) M. Tariq, Faisal Syed, Abdul Islam Nazir, Waqar Butt and Irfan Raja it was the cohesive play put up by the Team Blue players that helped to curb the might and determination of their powerful opponents. No doubt the Team Blue players showed more guts and superb combination to beat the Team Red by a margin of 7 to 4 points.

Pairs of the Team Blue who emerged successful in their relentless pursuit of victory were Harris Naseer and Sharjeel Awan, Col Jameel Khalid and Imran Mairaj, Faisal Ali Malik and Mikail Khan, Asim Tiwana and H. M. Yousaf, and Dr Mohsin Anwer and Faisal Bajwa.

These five pairs picked up a total of five points while the pairings of Imran F. Mian and Dr Tashbeeb and Tanveer Karamat and Max Babri chipped in with half a point as their matches ended up level.

The combination playing under the banner of Team Reds may have lost the contest in the ultimate reckoning but they had their good moments too as the pairings of Faisal Syed and Abbas Chaudry, Abdul Islam Nazir and Waqar Butt, Imran Zafar and Abid Farooq showed excellence in their play and brought their team a total of three points.

Half a point each was contributed by the pairings of Irfan Raja and Abdullah Sharif and Ahmed Bux Tarrar and Rizwan Chaudry who had a drawn match against their opponents. A wonderful event played on match play format that brought the best out of the participating players.
