NAB preparing to nab bureaucrats, politicians

ISLAMABAD: The Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Thursday decided to initiate the inquiry against all the national and international Non-Governmental Organisations working in Pakistan allegedly for not properly using the funds but embezzlements in the funds.

In another decision, the NAB’s Executive Board has decided to continue the investigation against management of the M/S Elysium Holding Pakistan Limited alleged for illegal sale of non-saleable allotment certificates of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Ranches Islamabad in open market without completing their contractual obligations of transferring land to DHA.

The prime accused in this case were Kamran Kayani, younger brother of ex-chief of army staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Waseem Aslam Butt, Chief executive M/S Elysium Holding Pakistan Limited Hammad Arshad.

The Executive Board of NAB held its meeting Thursday with the chair of its Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal.

The Executive Board also decided to initiate an inquiry against ex-speaker Balochistan Jan Muhammad Jamali and ex-secretary Azam Devii as well as others for illegal appointments while misusing the power.

The Executive Board also ordered an inquiry against the Chief Executive Drugs Regulatory Authority Muhammad Aslam Afghani allegedly his appointment as chief executive was made in violation of rules and abuse of powers causing a loss of millions of rupees to national exchequer. The board has also initiated inquiry against another official of Ministry of Health Services Akhtar Hussain, who is serving as Director at Drug Regulatory Authority for allegedly having assets beyond known sources.

The NAB’s Executive Board also approved to launch an investigation against the officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), M/s BNP Group and others allegedly for misusing of authority causing a loss of Rs2.195 billion to the national exchequer.

The approval for launching the investigations against the ex-managing director PSO Irfan Khalil Qureshi, ex-managing director PSO Naeem Yeyah Mir, Amir Chishti and others allegedly for misusing of power to award the contract illegally to Admor Gas (Private) Limited company that caused a loss of Rs552 million to national exchequer. The executive board has approved the initiating of investigation against the officials of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) allegedly for awarding the government land on a peanuts and corruption in the contract of purchasing category 23 calibrating planes that caused a loss of millions to the national exchequer.

The Executive Board has approved the inquiry against ex-IG Prisons Farooq Nazeer for having the assets beyond known means. The Board has approved to file a corruption reference against ex-chief secretary Sadiq Memon and others allegedly for allotment of 6 acres of land on permanent basis on fake documents that caused a loss of Rs551.7 million to national exchequer.

The meeting of the Executive Board of the NAB has also decided to file a corruption reference against ex-additional chief secretary Balochistan Ali Zaheer and others officials of Balochistan Development Authority for allegedly illegally awarding the contracts to favourite companies as well as advance payments of Rs287 million.

Another approval was given for filing a corruption reference against the head of Cardiology Department of Medical Stores Balochistan Dr Abid Amin for awarding the contracts to his favourite companies that caused a loss of Rs96.7 million to national exchequer.

The Executive Board has also approved the filing of corruption reference against ex-MPA Nasarullah Baloch for misusing the power to temper the land record that caused a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.

The meeting approved the filing of reference against Mian Abu Zar and others allegedly for selling the government land in peanuts, reference against Khalid Mehmood Chadda and others allegedly for illegally purchasing 800 kannal of land that caused a loss of millions of rupees to national exchequer and another corruption reference against Syed Asif Akhtar Hashmi for illegal appointments in Pakistan Model Educational Institutions.

The NAB’s Executive Board has decided to file three corruption references against ex-MPA Malik Muhammad Rafique Khar and officials of Revenue Department for illegal allotment of land while misusing of power.

While the Executive Board has stopped the inquiries against the officials of the Department of Highways Punjab and officials of Islamia University Bahawalpur due to lack of evidence.

The NAB’s Executive Board has also initiated the inquiry against Daryos C Manwala and Ghoshi Masanata for purchasing $460,000 from different money exchangers. This case was referred to the NAB by State Bank of Pakistan. On the conclusion of the meeting, Chairman NAB Justice (R) Javed Iqbal directed to complete all inquires and investigations at the earliest as per law and no case should be delayed for indefinite period.
