LAHORE: Pakistan is the direct victim of global warming and the climate change phenomenon, and France will extend every possible help to Pakistan in taking measures to counter the environmental change.

French Ambassador in Pakistan Marc Barety said this while talking to The News at the head office of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) after a briefing by the Wasa managing director on the ground water situation and future water needs of the provincial metropolis.

The French ambassador said that this was his first visit to Lahore and he found Lahorites very hospitable. He said he visited Lahore Fort and saw the historical Picture Wall there. He said he also studied the Mughal era’s water and sanitation system at 500-year old Lahore Fort which was amazing. He said he was impressed with the ongoing development work in the city. He said he was happy that Lahore had changed into a metropolitan city.

Marc Barety said that the citizens should adopt rain water harvesting system so that it could be saved to recharge the underground water acquafer and this would be helpful for future generations. Earlier, the Wasa MD briefed to the French envoy on the ongoing and future development plans of the agency. The French ambassador assured the MD of his full support in the projects of waste water treatment, improvement of water distribution network and installation of meters.
