Dr Tahirul Qadri’s demands that justice be done to the victims of the model town tragedy are undoubtedly legitimate. But his haughty proclamations that he would bring down the government of the PML-N and destroy it as a political party - the most popular party of the country – are untenable and regrettable. Nevertheless, the ruling party does deserve the blame as it has failed to disclose and punish those responsible for the tragedy.
In light of the above, the relevant authorities are requested to intervene in the matter. The legitimate demands of the PAT leader should be accepted. In the meanwhile, the growing trend of such costly, disruptive, unconstitutional and undemocratic protests must be ended. Specific sites should be allocated for all future protests. Laws should be framed to put a limit on such protests.
