PESHAWAR: The Board of Directors (BoD) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) on Wednesday approved the name of Engineer Saeed Ahmad Khan, a Canadian national, as chief executive officer (CEO) of the company.

The Human Resource (HR) Committee headed by retired bureaucrat Sahibzada Saeed on December 26 last year had shortlisted three candidates including Saeed Ahmad Khan, Javed Iqbal Khattak and Khurram Khaliq. For the selection of the new CEO, a meeting of the BoD of the company was held here at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat with acting chairman, Faheem Wazir, who is provincial secretary Industries, in the chair.

Almost all public sector representatives on the BoG attended the meeting. However, two private sector members did not turn up.

According to the sources privy to the meeting’s proceedings, the board after a debate selected Saeed Ahmad Khan as the new CEO through a majority vote as almost all public sector members of the 19-member BoG and some Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) supporters voted for him. But all other independent members backed Javed Iqbal Khattak, the sources added.

They said that newly selected CEO has a BSc in Civil Engineering. He has been living in Canada and has for more than 23 years experience in infrastructure development. Javed Iqbal Khattak has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and is postgraduate diploma holder in industrialisation, trade and economic policy.

The sources confided to The News that the issue of dual nationality of Saeed Ahmad Khan also figured at the BoD meeting, but it was over-ruled by the chair that there is no bar on hiring such candidates.

Khurram Khaliq Khan, the third candidate for the CEO slot, is an engineer who has also worked abroad.
